Roland Berger supports Leaders' Dialogue event

David Stern, Managing Partner of the London office of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, took part in the fourth annual Leaders' Dialogue which this year was held at The Reform Club on Pall Mall.

Following an introduction to the event given by Hans-Werner Kilz, Editor of the Suddeutsche Zeitung, David spoke about the background to the recent economic crisis and the way in which it has affected the European economy. Thomas Mirow, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), then addressed delegates about the differences between the emerging economies of Central & Eastern Europe and the more developed economies of Western Europe and commented on how the developing economies had emerged from the crisis more rapidly.

Olli Rehn, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, outlined the European Commission's concerns about the gap between the criteria set out in the Maastricht treaty and the current budgetary situations of different countries. He also spoke about his proposals for "encouraging" countries whose budgets were out of line with the Maastricht criteria to conform.

A lively debate then took place which involved the audience of leading politicians, industrialists and financiers from a broad spectrum of European countries.
