Roland Berger Strategy Consultants sponsored this year's inaugural Oxford German Conference, a two-day inter-disciplinary event bringing together experts on German and European politics and culture. The conference, held on 07th and 08th May 2010, was hosted by the Oxford Union, the world-famous debating society that has an unparalleled reputation for bringing together international guests and speakers on varied topics.
Klaus Kremers, Partner, London delivered a keynote speech on the topic "A United Germany in a United Europe?". Apart from Klaus, the conference had two other keynote speakers – Douglas Hurd, Baron Hurd of Westwell, former Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom and active supporter of the German reunification process and Dr Florian Langenscheidt, a well-known German publisher, author, venture capitalist and public intellectual.
Apart from the keynote speeches, there were panel discussions on a range of interesting topics spanning business, politics and culture. These included: “Crisis and change in the global economy: sustainable business models for Europe”, “European power politics and German Reunification: Was Thatcher Right?”, “Enlargement without limits? The future of the European Union” and “State involvement in the media and arts: curse or blessing?”
