Oxford Private Equity Forum 2011

The London office sponsored the 7th Annual Oxford Private Equity Forum which was hosted by the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, on Wednesday June 01, 2011. This year's forum covered a diverse range of topics including private equity investment opportunities in emerging markets, the relationships and tensions between Limited and General Partners, experiences in managing portfolio companies after deal completion and lessons learnt from private equity activity in Germany.

Paul Fletcher, Senior Partner, Actis, delivered an engaging keynote speech to an audience of about 200 attendees outlining Actis's experience in private equity investments in emerging markets across the world including Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Following the keynote speech were two panel discussions on private equity portfolio management and GP-LP relationships with representation from private equity/venture capital firms such as Advent International, Northedge Capital Partners, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Oxford Capital Partners, Permira and Vencap International.

Khaled Said, Managing Partner, Capital General Partners, then delivered a thought-provoking perspective on the returns from private equity and the sharing of rewards between General Partners and their investors.

The rest of the event was comprised of speeches from Oleg Elshin, Managing Partner, Univer Capital on private equity investment opportunities in Russia and the CIS, and from Paul Jowett, Senior Partner, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, on how private equity activity has evolved in Germany, what the experiences of different types of fund have been, and what lessons have been learnt.

At the end of the day-long event, there was a Roland Berger-sponsored drinks and canapé reception at the Ashmolean Museum, which houses an extensive art collection following its recent modernisation.
